Playtime
Up Up Balloons
• Put a blanket on the floor and cover it with lots of balloons. You and another adult lift the blanket quickly so all the balloons fly round the room. Now the children have to catch the balloons and throw them back towards the blanket. Don’t forget to ask “Where are they?” “How many are left?” “What colours are they?” and “How high can they fly?”
Musical Statues
• Explain to the children that they have to dance when the music is on and as soon as it stops they have to stand still like statues. You can also try variations on dancing, perhaps with each child choosing a different movement for each round.
Who is the Loudest?
• Stand in a circle and ask the children who can be the loudest, then the quietest doing something. For example “Who can stamp their feet the loudest?” and all the children will stamp their feet to find the loudest child. Then ask “Who can do it the quietest?” You should show them how to do it quietly.
